We’ve all received phone calls from numbers we didn’t recognize. Sometimes you may miss calls, and you want to speak to the person again. Sometimes you may want to figure out how to make sure they never call you again.

As long as you have the area code and the seven digit number, you should be able to trace any cell phone number’s owner, if you know where to look…

A few days ago I received an email from my friend saying that, “In just 4 days from today all US. cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies and you will begin to receive sales calls…”.

Well, that would be great news for those of us who were trying to find a free online directory that included mobile phone numbers!

Federal Trade Comission (FDC) followed up with a few different press releases - with the most recent saying, “Despite Re-Circulating E-mail, It is Still Not Necessary to Register Cell Phone Numbers” {in the do-not-call registry}. They go on to say, “Contrary to the e-mail, cell phone numbers are not being released to telemarketers, and you will not soon be getting telemarketing calls on your cell phone.”

So, this means that there is still no central database of mobile phone numbers and free reverse phone directories cannot return information on those numbers. You also won’t be able to get information on landline numbers that are unlisted or non-published.

That doesn’t mean that putting together a reverse cell phone directory is impossible. The truth is it can be done – and has been done. Putting such a database together, however, requires extensive time and money and that’s why such services – if they are legitimate – charge a fee to use them.

The most effective way to trace a cell phone number is through Reverse Phone Detective. Using this service, you’ll be able to find information on almost any number you enter. Reverse Phone Detective provides you with millions of records that you can access for only one fee. It’s no surprise that this is the service recommended by private investigators as the one service they use when they need to find out the origins of a phone number fast.

Even if you have an outdated phone number, you’ll still be able to use that number to search for the latest address for the individual using people search investigative tools available to members.
